University has been an exciting time to learn to support myself and continue my vegan diet, whilst living with non-vegans. I want to share my experiences.
Before now I had never realised that Bombay potatoes contained mustard. When I tried this recipe it just made sense. The spices tasted very similar to my local takeaway compared to when I have made spicy potatoes before.
Marmite pasta made famous by Nigella. I basically followed Nigella's recipe but with the vegan substitute. I ignored the cheese as I had no vegan cheese. I tried it and enjoyed it as a fairly plain meal. Just pasta, vegan margarine, marmite and peas. I thought it was almost as easy as my love of Sainsbury's Vegetable noodles but plainer.
Sometimes I feel like really plain (but salty) food but I might add ketchup next time, as this recipe on the Guardian website suggests.
Starbucks have new frappuccinos and after an internet search it appears that most of them are vegan. Quarrygirl posted about the change to the method of making frappuccinos in America which has recently moved over to the UK too. The guidance I have seen online suggests you make sure that you check they are making the new frappuccinos as the old ones were not vegan. They previously had a premade base with dairy in it. The light frappuccinos are not vegan and there are issues with the caramel.
My housemate works at Starbucks and I've heard that the new pink jug for the soya milk has caused much excitement :)
Make sure you visit starbucks before the 22nd May as they are doing a half price frappuccino deal between 3-5pm each day. I will be going at some point this week.
I bought a little round courgette from the market which is perfect stuffed for one person. It has peppers, onion and tomato and topped with nutritional yeast.
